The Sanari Difference- Coconut Wax
There’s a reason that candles feel so special when you burn them, they are special. Candles emit elements into the atmosphere around you that can help relax and calm your body and spirit. Not only that, but they allow you to bring the essential element of fire into your home in a safe and user-friendly way. Anything that releases elemental properties into your home or permeates the air around you should be treated with respect. After all, what is more important than the air you breathe?
We have already gone into the perils of synthetic fragrances and how harmful they can be to your health (if you haven’t read it yet, you can take a look at our post on fragrances here). However, there are many factors that contribute to the quality of your candle, such as the wax used in the product. Sanari Candles use a blend of propriety blended wax using 100% Organic, Coconut and non-GMO Soy Wax. What many people may not know, is that all waxes are not created equal!
Paraffin Wax: The majority of candles on the market today are paraffin wax candles. This is the type of wax that you may have used to melt and make candles as a kid. It is commonly sold in craft stores and some groceries stores, and it is the #1 used wax in the United States. It is inexpensive to obtain and is an easy way to cut costs in mass production. The dark side of paraffin, these waxes emit toxins into the air when they are burned, specifically toluene and benzene. Toluene specifically can be found in paint thinners and benzene has been found to be a potential carcinogen. Both substances are linked to aggravating allergies, asthma and other health related issues.
Soy Wax: Soy has been used as an alternative to paraffin wax for quite some time, and is, admittedly, a better alternative. However, soy waxes usually contain small amounts of paraffin wax in order to make them burn like traditional paraffin wax candles. This means that anything labeled “soy wax,” is usually soy wax blended with a wax that is still toxic and pollutes the air in your home. While there are soy waxes out there that are not blended with paraffin wax, soy wax is still a derivative of the soybean, which have a complicated place in the sustainability of our planet. They are seldom farmed responsibly or sustainability, and soybeans are genetically modified more often than not. To top it off, most soy wax is not organic. The pesticides sprayed on the soybeans that are used to make your candle wax can easily find their way into the air in your home.
Beeswax: Beeswax has become a popular work-around in the health-conscious candle industry. But even beeswax poses an ethical dilemma. What do you do about beeswax candles if you are a vegan? The farming of bees raises many red flags in the vegan community.
Coconut Wax: The safest, cleanest wax is used in all Sanari Candles. Our wax is made from 100% sustainably farmed and extracted coconut wax. We have zero traces of paraffin wax whatsoever in our formulation and our wax and oils are 100% organic! That means that you can feel safe and good about every candle you light. When you buy a candle from Sanari Candle, you are not harming any animals or the planet, and you are helping farmers in countries around the world work sustainably, ethically and organically.
Our wax is so pure that you can do all kinds of things with it as you burn your Sanari candle. Try extinguishing your candle and waiting 3-5 minutes. Use some of the warm wax as a hand salve or a cuticle cream. We love putting some of the wax on our hands under our cleaning gloves and letting it moisturize our skin while we do the dishes.
At Sanari Candle, we take sustainability one step further. Every candle is made using a stemless wine glass as its vessel. This means that not only is the candle itself responsible, but so is the vessel it comes in. We love reusing our vessel as a wine glass. Some other fun ideas are to use it as a tea cup, a bud vase, or even a small succulent pot.
Would you keep an open can of paint thinner in your house? Probably not. So why would you knowingly release the same toxins into the air by burning a candle in your home with the same known pollutants and potential carcinogens? The Sanari difference is that we provide a safe, non toxic candle for you and your family. Make the logical choice.
